A hundred years, four locations and yet it all seems just like yesterday. This fascinating book traces the Club's existence from its inauguration and first nine- hole course at Wood End Farm, Low Biggins, in 1906 to the magnificent course that is to-day Kirkby Lonsdale Golf Club

Photographs of their time are contrasted with photographs taken from the same spot to-day, and it is very interesting to note what has changed and what, surprisingly, has remained the same.

The story is a repeating one of the tremendous enthusiasm of dedicated men and women working together to overcome a seemingly endless list of problems in the name of golf. At the same time they formed a comradeship that has never diminished and they have passed on, through the generations, the same determination to succeed that has resulted in one of the finest courses in the North-West.

Surprisingly there has been from day one a strong feminine interest, with competitions for both Ladies and Gentlemen preceding the opening of the first Clubhouse in 1907. A photograph of members on the steps of the new Clubhouse has happily survived along with several other photographs of the time. Extracts from the 'Official Handbook' dated 1925 make fascinating reading.

All this however pales into insignificance when one reads of the momentous decision to move from Casterton to Barbon and the creation of our current golf course. This is a tale of visionaries and sceptics, of determination and distrust, of colliding personalities and recriminations. But what a result!

The final chapter of this book gives a hole-by-hole guide to the course with advice on how to play it. Generously sprinkled with outstanding photographs of what is a stunning golf course, set in the most wonderful Lune Valley, this book is not just for members but also for anyone with an interest in golf.
